Thursday's Activity

Some marketing strategies my group thought of on Thursday are,

  • Flyers
  • Offering prizes that will attract participants
  • Announcements
We think that these tactics could be used in our school to promote things such as the Pep Rally, a homecoming football game and dance, and the dodge ball tournament.

Social Responsibility

The owners of Rebel Dance Alliance, Riitta O'Connor and Bryan Steele, worked tirelessly to manage the perfect weekend of dancing. Management is used to plan, organize, and control all available resources to reach the company's goal. O'Connor and Steele's company is a private sector, which means it is not associated with government organizations.

Although the company has no affiliation with the government, they are very much so affiliated with numerous local charities. The Rebel Dance Alliance website says, "Rebel Dance Alliance is committed to giving back to our community. Part of the proceeds from our conventions will be donated to several non- profit organizations," A non- profit organization is one that is not operated for the purpose of making a profit.

The organizations the company donates to are iDance4aCURE, Speaking Through Dance, and the ALS Association of Northern New England. "iDance4aCURE" is an organization that helps the fight, research and support childhood cancers. The ALS Association helps support and guide those who are affected by ALS. And lastly, Speaking Through Dance fund raises and brings awareness to autism.

The owners of this convention, chose these charities because they support dancers and one of them has personal experience with ALS.

Chapter 5 Assesment

  1. A business is the activities that involve production and marketing of a good or service.
  2. The production and marketing of goods are the two primary functions of marketing. Both functions depend on management.
  3. Businesses can be categorized in four ways; by size, profit organization, market served,  and the kind of product provided.
  4. E-commerce is significant because it extends the marketplace to people's homes. The book says, "Sector growth that took a hundred or more years to build during the Industrial Age is being matched by e-commerce at a rate about 20 times faster in the "new economy" of the 21st century.

History of Video Games

Some of my earliest memories are of watching my two older brothers play the Tony Hawk video game on their play station. Madden, Tony Hawk and Zelda were video games that frequently appeared on our tv screen. Although my brothers and I may consider these games as old there are many video games out there that are older than those.

Pong is a video game created in the early seventies. This game is a digital ping pong game made my Atari corporations. The first version was made for arcade machines. Today a game that would compare is wii sports. In this game you can play various sports matches such as tennis and bowling. This game is played at home on the Nintendo Wii console.
